If ever there was evidence to support Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, Tuesday evening’s riots in Albuquerque are it. Protesters during a Trump appearance at the Albuquerque Convention Center reportedly tossed burning T-shirts, plastic bottles and other stuff at police, injuring several people. The protesters also toppled trash cans and barricades. Protest is one thing – and it’s acceptable if it’s peaceful. But when protesters turn to violence, most likely incited by illegal immigrants as well as their friends and relatives, it’s time to send them home and erect the wall.

Former McDonald’s chief executive Ed Resni says that purchasing skilled robots at the hamburger chain’s restaurants worldwide would be a cheaper alternative than employing minimum-wage human workers. That spells job losses. The liberal left pushing for a $15 minimum wage needs to wake up and smell the roses. Resni’s statement, along with the progress in “driver-less” automobiles, could be a foreshadowing of what movie-goers saw in “I Robot.” As the old bromide goes: Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

Story of the day showing political correctness run amok: A single telephone complaint resulted in a Memorial Day display of 79 handmade white crosses being removed from public property along a highway in Hiram, Georgia (population 3,700). The crosses honored the 79 Paulding County residents who have died in U.S. wars. The individual complaining was not identified. Hiram City Manager Barry Atkinson said the crosses were removed because it was obvious that not all 79 fallen soldiers were Christians, so he “took corrective action.” What’s wrong with this country?

Now there’s proof that Apple chief executive Tim Cook has gone over the edge. He said the iPhone appears to be at least 350 years old. During what was described as a “chat” Tuesday in Amsterdam involving a former European official identified as Neelie Kroes, Cook said he had visited an Amsterdam museum, where he viewed a particular painting titled “Man Hands a Letter to a Woman in a Hall,” done in 1670 by artist Pieter de Hooch. But Cook said the letter in the painting is not a letter; it looks more like an iPhone (which didn’t go public until 2007). The Apple boss then said he was just joking. But was he?

When people argue that our public-education system is not failing us, tell them to consider this boneheaded proposal: More than 1,300 students at Oberlin College in Ohio have signed a petition aimed at college administrators to abolish midterm exams, not allow any end-of-semester grades to be less than a C, and allow alternatives to the standard midterm exam – such as engaging in a graded conversation with a professor. The reason? So that they’ve got more time to participate in public protests, especially when they have to drive as much as 40 miles to be involved. Gimme a break!
